Living the New Life

To learn more about Jesus and how to live as a Christian we need to read the Bible regularly.

The Bible is:

God speaking to us
God's instruction to us
God's strength for us
God's guidance for us

Beginning to Read the Bible

(some practical suggestions)

Start with one of the four Gospels (perhaps Mark or John) and read a few verses or paragraphs each day.

The Gospels will give you an overview of the ministry of Jesus and will help you consider questions like:

Who is Jesus?
What did Jesus come to do?
What does it mean to follow Jesus?

At the same time - try reading one or two Psalms each day.

The psalms are worship songs, which reflect all kinds of situations in our daily lives and our relationship with God.

Before you read the Bible it helps to ask God to speak to you through his word. "All Scripture is God breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3: 16 (NIV)

Suggested Bible Translations
(The Bible books were originally written in Hebrew and Greek)

Contemporary English Version (CEV): a racy and easy to read free translation.
Today's English Version (TEV): a contemporary free translation.
New International Version (NIV): good for public reading.
Revised Standard Version (RSV): most accurate of these, more formal in style.
New Revised Standard Version (NRSV): RSV attempting to avoid gender specific language
