How
is our Thirst for God?
How much do we love
him? Why do we love him? Is it for him? Is it for us? Is it for the millions
who do not know him?
I was asked by the
minister of another church as to whether the cry for transformation comes
primarily in countries and cities that are socially and economically desperate.
The changes depicted inn Transformations I and II videos certainly depict
situations like that.
But what if we are
desperate because we have learned to shudder at the prospect of eternal
alienation and punishment for those who will not turn to Christ? Are we
desperate, or are we merely socially conditioned within the wider Christian
community to acknowledge the intellectual truth of Bible teaching on accountability,
hell and judgment? How much do we believe the truths of which we are convinced?
Is truth a way of life?
There are two factors
that may bless us with desperation for God.
The
world increasing fears terror.
September 11th has taken root. Numbness has turned to horror. The horrified
may turn to God.
Our
own culture has unreasonably accepted the irrational forces of rejection,
scattering and relationship breakdown.
Secular humanism has failed to deliver a better world. Many desperate
will humble themselves, pray, change and the successfully await the intervention
of God to forgive and heal the land. (2 Chronicles 7: 14)
Oh precious
Jesus ascended, up on high
To eyes of faith you always have come nigh.
From bed of straw to painful crown of thorns,
For sin and grief your tears all spilt in flood,
You bore for us rejection spelt in blood.
Lord Jesus Christ,
your loving eyes are deep,
Yet crystal clear as shining, smiling jewels,
Your face has grandeur etched in tenderness,
Your strong hands lead through valleys rough and steep,
Your loving arms sustain in every wilderness.
