Intercede for our Nation

Many folk in engaged in a special time of prayer and fasting for our nation. Brian Pickering of the Australian Prayer Network writes,

“OUR FOUNDATIONS AS A NATION. Wherever sin has occurred in a Nation, it becomes an altar of offence to the Lord and if it is not addressed through repentance, that altar of offence gains strength and influence in the Nation, and attracts more evil, giving it legal right of entry. From the beginning of human habitation in our land, altars of offence have been erected through the sin of the people and their rejection of God.

It is interesting to see that this iniquity has continued down through the history of the Nation.

The European settlement of our Nation began in rejection. This led to a spirit of rejection over Australia which become a part of the Character of the Nation. Just as our forefathers were rejected by the British Government, so we in turn rejected the Indigenous People of the Nation, and until recent times even basic rights were denied these people. They suffered greatly just as the convicts and their overseers suffered at the hands of the British.

We see the same sin flowing down through the generations. Even today people suffer rejection through such things as racial intolerance, a lack of sensitivity, compassion and understanding towards our neighbours. This has compounded the sin. God is now calling us to turn from sin in all its form and to receive His healing as a Nation and also as individuals.”
